The 2015 Charity Golfathon

by Rikki Black

2015 was yet again a very busy year for Team Golfathon.

It all started back in March when we had our very first Charity Darts Night featuring former world champions John Lowe and Bob Anderson. This was a sell out and everybody enjoyed it so much we have booked another one for March 2016 with guest star Wayne Mardle.

May time saw us having our very popular sportsmans brunch with guest speakers Bill Copeland, Joe Camay, Paul Reid and John Gahagan. As usual the brunch was another success with us raising plenty on the day for the Hospice.

May was also busy with a couple of live band nights featuring The Colin Kennedy Band and then Grahame Skinner who gave up their time for us and donating all ticket money to the Hospice!!!

Sunday the 7th of June was when we organised our Charity am am which was a 4 man team event around the links of the Irvine golf club. There were some good scores and some not so good but everybody left with a grin on their faces after being entertained with some great golfing stories from Mr Alan Tait. Again a huge amount raised for The Hospice.

Friday the 26th of June was the date of the Golfathon. Myself, Andy Reid, John Shanks and Alan Connery teed it up at 03.45hours at Irvine Golf Club and continued to play until we ran out of light at 22.35hours. We were delighted to have beaten our previous record of 132 holes by completing 135!!!

October 24th was our final fundraiser of the year with a charity dinner/dance with great music coming from John Blakley. Yet again another complete sell out and a huge amount raised!!

As Bill Copeland has been supporting Team Golfathon from the very start we thought it would be very appropriate to ask him to be an ambassador for Team Golfathon and we are delighted that he's honoured to take it up.

We would all like to take this opertunity to thank everybody who has supported and who has donated money for all the hard work we have put in over this year. At this moment we have raised over £16,000 for The Hospice this year.

Next year we will be having our charity darts night again, our sportsmans brunch, charity golf day and our charity dinner/dance. Dates will be announced soon.

Theres a slight difference in the golfathon. Myself and Andy Reid are going to attempt to play 10 rounds in the one day although John and Alan will be there to help us. Training for this starts straight after the new year!!!

So once again from Team Golfathon huge thanks to all our sponsors and to everybody who supported us over the year!!
